Fall contest

Posted on October 3rd, 2008 by by admin

We’ll announce each new contest at the same time we announce the winner of the current contest. To be notified of our new contests either sign up for an RSS feed, or sign up for email updates.

Our current contest is to see who can come up with the best Top Ramen recipe.   I’m going to have to test your submitted recipes so please make an effort to keep them edible.

Judging is totally subjective to the whims and whorls of the Geezer and whoever else he elects to consult. The judging criteria may be totally immaterial to the subject at hand. Basically he can award it to anyone he wants for any reason he wants but I’ll try to keep him on topic. All decisions are final. Don’t even think about suing us over this nonsense - our lawyer is bigger than yours and will make your life miserable - won’t you Jimmy? (Dat’s right boss)

Submit your best Top Ramen recipe below.

I usually follow the package directions and throw in a fried egg and chopped green onions. I’ll occasionally raid the cupboard for random spices. Caribbean jerk seasoning and onion powder works for me.

I suppose you could cook the egg right in with the boiling water.

Just like mom used to make…kind of.

When I was a kid, I used to love plain old noodles cooked with butter and garlic. Since that’s a bit hard to make with just a microwave at my disposal, I made the recipe over Top Ramen style.

Cook your noodles as usual. It doesn’t matter what kind, as you’re going to toss the flavor packet anyway. When the noodles are fully cooked, drain them out (tipping the bowl into a sink using a fork to keep the noodles in works fine.) Stir in a spoonful or so of butter and some garlic and onion salt to taste and you’re done. It’s simple and all together costs under $10.

    Ingredients
    1 package ramen
    garlic powder
    lemon pepper seasoning
    spaghetti seasoning
    black pepper (optional)
    milk
Prepare ramen in the normal way. When noodles are fully cooked, drain most of the water, leaving 2-3 tablespoons in with the noodles. Add the seasoning, 1-2 teaspoons each of garlic powder, spaghetti seasoning, and lemon pepper seasoning. If desired, add the black pepper. Then add 2 tablespoons milk and mix well. Finally let it sit for a few minutes to let the liquid absorbed into the noodles

    “Daddy Soup”
This is my father’s version of the classic avgolemono (Egg and lemon) soup. Whenever I was sick I absolutely lived on this stuff.

    Ingredients:
~ 1 Pckg. chicken flavored Ramen
    ~ 1/2 c. Milk
    ~ 1 Egg
    ~ Lemon Juice

Prepare the ramen noodles in the normal way. Leave the ramen on the stove. In a separate bowl whisk the egg until the yolk and the egg white are completely mixed. Add some of the hot water to the egg mixture in order to bring up the temperature. Add the milk and the egg mixture to the ramen. Stir quickly so that the egg does not clump. The Ramen should get thicker and creamier. Once this happens add the spice packet. Then stir in the lemon juice to taste.

    Enjoy!
